Cities ready for egg hunts

Who wants candy?

Kids in Curry and Roosevelt counties are free to have as many sweets as they can find this Saturday as the cities of Clovis and Portales hold their annual free Easter Egg Hunt events.

The foraging begins 9 a.m. sharp at Clovis' Guy Leeder Softball Complex on East 14th Street, while Portales' hunt starts at 2 p.m. at the city's softball complex on North Industrial Drive.

Clovis is preparing approximately 10,000 eggs for the hunt, open to children 11 and under. Egg hunts will be spread across different softball fields for various age groups. There will also be bicycles, Easter baskets and other prizes, officials said. Meanwhile admission is free until noon at the Hillcrest Park Zoo.

In Portales the hunt is open to children 10 and under. The city solicited candy donations the past two weeks for its 10th annual iteration of the event and is still taking contributions at city hall through today. Organizers are expecting up to 300 kids for about 4,000 plastic eggs hidden across four softball fields, with the contest split up across age groups.
