Bands rated ‘superior’ again

For the third-straight year, Clovis bands aced the Southeaastern New Mexico Music Educator’s Association band large group music performance assessment, held last week.

The Clovis High School concert and wind symphony bands, CHS Freshman Academy symphonic band and symphonic bands from Gattis, Marshall and Yucca middle schools each received “superior” ratings, given to bands that score 90 or higher on a 100-point grading scale during the assessment.

Band directors include Bill Allred and Tim Clifford (CHS bands), Daniel Perez (CHSFA), Stephanie Lenhart (Gattis), Melissa Rice-Perez (Marshall) and Ruby Espinoza (Yucca).

Physicals offered May 4 at CHS

Clovis Municipal Schools will offer athletic physicals May 4 for students planning to participate in sports during the 2019-20 school year.

Students from Clovis, Portales, Texico, Melrose, Elida, Dora, Floyd, Grady, House and Clovis Christian.

Physicals will be administered at the Clovis High School north gym, with all girls physicals at 8 a.m., middle school boys physicals at 9 a.m. and high school boys physicals at 10:30 a.m.

Physicals are $5, but no student will be denied due to inability to pay. Prior to the physical, forms for athletic code of conduct, athletic drug testing consent, interscholastic athletic participation, medical examination, pre-participation physical evaluation history/physical examination and concussion awareness.

Parents must also provide verification of current medical insurance.
