Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
CLOVIS — Eastern New Mexico is home to dozens of support groups for people suffering from addiction, cancer, grief and other issues, but currently lacks a group dedicated to organ transplants.
One Clovis is resident is hoping to change that.
Richard Roy told The News on Monday that he wants to establish a support group to help those who have undergone or are planning for an organ transplant, as well as their caretakers.
Roy said he and his wife returned to Clovis from Dallas a couple weeks ago after she received a liver transplant, and after searching, he could not find a specific support group dedicated to organ transplants anywhere in the state.
Roy said he imagines the support group as a reoccurring hour-long roundtable on the weekends for people to share their experiences with organ transplant and for prospective transplant recipients to learn more about their upcoming procedures.
Roy said anyone interested in participating in an organ transplant support group can contact him at 575-762-7029 or 575-791-0173.
