Fourteen local students win scholarships
Fourteen local students were among the 35 scholarship winners awarded this month by the Plateau Education Foundation, according to a Plateau press release.
Among the $8,000 scholarship winners were Jackson Jarman of Farwell High School, Baylee Sours of Texico High School, Krista Baltes of Fort Sumner High School and Saylor Samora of Clovis High School.
The $3,000 scholarship recipients included Mari Ferrel, Emma Norman and Ramon Reyes for Farwell High School, Cory Terrell and Alex Moyer of Fort Sumner High School, Ellie Aikman and Katelynn Kenyon of House High School and Skyler Davis of Texico High School.
The $1,500 scholarships were awarded to Dawson Moon of House High School and Benjamin Segura II of Fort Sumner High School.
Alternates for the $3,000 scholarship include Stephen Acosta of Clovis High School, Kylie Haseloff of Farwell High School and Alexis Smith of House High School.
Four recognized by school board association
Four local recipients are among 115 statewide winners of New Mexico School Boards Association Excellence in Student Achievement Awards, according to a release from the NMSBA.
Clovis Schools Superintendent Jody Balch, Portales High School science teacher Jack Willis, Dora teacher Kit Pettigrew and the Floyd Lions Club will be honored over the next few weeks by their respective school boards.
The annual awards are in recognition of those who have helped improve local student achievement.
Officials said 64 school boards participate in the awards.
