Quilting, home remodeling ahead on show

Information on a new quilt technique that makes it easier to create the Drunkard’s Path Quilt, helping kids learn to bake and over-all home remodeling will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday and at noon on Thursday.

Erica Plank is a designer and she’s going to show a new quilt technique that makes it easier to create the Drunkard’s Path quilt, which is a long-time favorite of quilters. She’ll show an easy way for those who do not have a curved foot for their sewing machine. Plank lives in Frontenac, Kansas.

Sarah Ryan is a registered dietitian nutritionist and she believes that when kids help in the kitchen, they are building lifelong skills. Also, when kids help out, they are more likely to eat healthy foods too! Cooking is an important skill to learn and build upon. Ryan is from Conroe, Texas.

President and designer Kim Bailey is going to discuss over-all remodeling and talk about the function of each room, tell how to set up a budget and timeline and explain where to find inspiration for whatever project you’re undertaking. Bailey is from Carrollton, Texas.

Information on the relationship between diabetes and obesity and country music will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” at noon on Tuesday and at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Author and chemist Shane Ellison will talk about diabetes and obesity. He explains that if you treat a person’s habits, you can treat his or her bad blood. He’ll give other suggestions based on his book “Over-the-Counter Natural Cures.” He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Johnny Mulhair and Will Banister will talk about the music business and then Banister will sing his popular song “He Turned Her On to Country.” Banister lives in Portales and Mulhair lives in Clovis.

Breakfast Cheese and Fruit Kabobs (Serves 2)

• 4 wooden skewers

• 3 ounces mozzarella cheese, cut into 3/4-inch cubes

• Strawberries, bananas, mango chunks and/or grapes

• Square frozen waffle, heated, cut into squares

• 1/2 cup plain or vanilla yogurt

• 1 tablespoon orange marmalade

Assemble kabobs, alternating cheese, fruit and waffle. Combine yogurt and marmalade. Serve with kabobs.

Blues Buster Smoothie

• 3/4 cup (6 ounces) low-fat blueberry yogurt

• 1/2 cup apple juice

• 1/3 cup fresh or frozen blueberries

• 1/3 cup frozen sliced peaches

• 5-6 ice cubes

Combine all ingredients in blender; blend until smooth. Amount of ice will vary depending on desired consistency. Pour into a glass and serve chilled.
