Former officer sentenced

CLOVIS — A former Curry County detention officer has been sentenced to nine years in prison for assisting in a jail escape last summer.

Sarina Dodson, 28, of Clovis, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors on three counts of assisting escape and one count of bringing contraband into a Jail, according to a news release from District Attorney Andrea Reeb.

The release said:

“On June 15, 2018, Curry County Detention inmates Aaron Clark, Victor Apodaca and Ricky Sena escaped from the outdoor recreation area of the jail through three secured doors. Dodson was the only detention officer working the control desk at the time. Dodson was arrested in Lubbock on June 19, 2018. The three inmates were at large for almost a week before they were apprehended during a SWAT team standoff with Clovis Police.”

Judge Matthew Chandler said: “This wasn’t a spontaneous decision, this was the result of ... planning. We can all remember where we were when we heard that three dangerous inmates had escaped. The ripple effect of fear spread across the community.”

Chandler sentenced Dodson to 10 1/2 years with 18 months being suspended in favor of supervised probation.
