Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Our people: Teacher, mother, reader

My name is Tametrya Myers. I am married to Mike Myers. We have two children. Hunter, who is four, and Maia, who is 5 months old. I have worked at Clovis Community College for three years teaching ESL. We attend Waypoint Christian Church in Clovis.

How did you meet your spouse?

I met Mike when he was stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base. I lived in Bryant, Arkansas. He told me that he liked pancakes, so our first date was at IHOP. We hit it off and had some drinks afterwards.

What's your idea of a perfect day?

A perfect day would be staying inside and watching TV. I like old shows like "The X-Files" and "Twilight Zone." I have always enjoyed relaxing days at home.

If you could have a super power, what would it be and why?

I would love to be able to teleport to any place I want. That way I could be at my mom's house or see my sister in Arkansas. I would also like to be invisible so I could play fun jokes on people.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a paleontologist or an astronaut when I grew up. I always loved dinosaurs and space. Even now, as an adult, I watch Ancient Aliens because my interests since childhood haven't changed.

What do you collect?

Magnets from all of my travels and shot glasses. I have some magnets from Las Vegas and Japan. I have shot glasses from all over the world, including Guam and Newfoundland.

How would you like to be remembered?

I would like to be remembered as a good person. I want to be seen as a wonderful mother, wife and daughter. When I pass, I want people to just think fondly of me.

Favorite quote, and by who?

"We are an impossibility in an impossible universe." - Ray Bradbury

If money were no object, what would you do to make eastern New Mexico a better place?

I would like to see more places to shop. For instance, TJ Maxx and Target. It would also be nice to have more parks around and kid-friendly places to have fun.

What's an accomplishment you're proud of?

I have a Master's degree in liberal arts (with an emphasis in English). I went to Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. It is a big accomplishment to graduate from college.

What's the best gift you've ever given?

The best gift I have given was to my grandmother. It was a calendar that I made myself that had the entire family's birthdays listed along with their photos. I included all of the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well. I worked very hard on it and it took months of research before completing.

What do you hope your life will be like in 10 years?

In ten years, Hunter will be 14 and Maia will be 10. I am hoping to live in a stress-free atmosphere. I would also like to be working at a job that I enjoy.

Tell us about your favorite hobby.

My favorite hobby is reading, although I don't get to read as much as I used to before having children and working. My favorite types of books are science fiction and historical thrillers.
