FBI charges former Parmer County deputy

AMARILLO — The former Parmer County Sheriff deputy charged last month with child sex crimes in Curry County was indicted this month on a federal charge of criminal sexual activity with minors.

On Thursday a grand jury in the U.S. District Court in Amarillo returned an indictment on Davin Waters, 25, of Farwell, for one count of transportation of minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. The charges followed reports from multiple children interviewed May 31 and June 3, just days after Waters was first arrested and charged with six counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor for allegedly touching a child on three occasions in a Texico church bathroom.

In interviews at the Bridge Child Advocacy Center in Hereford, Texas, two children told investigators of contact with Waters in New Mexico and Texas that involved Waters engaging them in games of "truth or dare."

Parmer County Sheriff Randy Geries told The News that Waters was immediately terminated from his position as charges came to light and that none of the alleged crimes took place in Waters' capacity with law enforcement.

Waters remained Saturday in the Curry County Detention Center on a no-bond pre-trial hold. A representative of his attorney, Wesley O. Poole, declined a request Friday from The News for comment. Court records on Friday did not list an attorney representing Waters on the federal charges.
