One dead, one critical after Friday crash

One Clovis man died and another has been hospitalized in critical condition following a Friday morning crash on New Mexico State Road 467.

According to a news release from Curry County Sheriff Wesley Waller:

• A 1996 Ford Aerostar, driven by Octavio Vasquez, 28 of Clovis, was traveling north on NM 467 behind a concrete truck. As Vasquez attempted to pass the concrete truck, his vehicle struck a southbound 1996 Cadillac, driven by Marcos Urban Jr., 64 of Clovis, resulting in a head-on collision.

• Urban was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. He died a short time after arrival at the hospital.

• Vasquez was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center, and later flown to a medical facility in Lubbock with critical injuries.

The accident happened south of Cannon Air Force Base about 9:20 a.m. The investigation is continuing.
