Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Newest commissioner sworn in

CLOVIS - Some three dozen gathered Wednesday morning to witness the swearing-in of Clovis' newest city commissioner.

David Robinson was appointed last month to replace District 1 Commissioner Ladona Clayton, who resigned this month to start a new job in Dallas. His term expires in March, at which time the seat is open for election again.

Robinson is the chief executive officer of telecommunications company Plateau and said he has no intention to seek another term after serving his eight months with the city. What he will do now is answer the call to civic duty from city leaders and leave the spot open for a new candidate next year.

Mayor David Lansford said an oath of office ceremony usually draws just a handful of people and that he was heartened to see such a crowd of city and county representatives in Wednesday's brief meeting in the assembly room of City Hall.

"It's nice to see this kind of support from leaders in our community," Lansford said after Robinson was sworn in on the Bible. "It's just incredible how fortunate we are."

Lansford and Mayor Pro Tem Juan Garza were also sworn in Wednesday for new two-year terms on the board of the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority.
