Jail escape trial pushed

CLOVIS — A trial scheduled this week for one of the local jail inmates charged with escaping the facility last summer was pushed to October due to an attorney’s schedule conflict.

Ricky Sena, 25, was charged with seven felonies in connection with a short-lived escape effort with two other Curry County Detention Center inmates in June 2018. His charges include two counts of aggravated assault upon a peace officer, a third-degree felony, for allegedly firing at police in a standoff June 19, 2018.

Sena was scheduled for two days of jury selection and trial this week but that was reset to Oct. 7-8 after Judge Drew Tatum approved a motion from the defense attorney. Jonathan Miller said he has a conflicting trial in Las Cruces, which had priority, and prosecutor Brian Stover stated no opposition, according to court records.
