'No updates' on July 27 death

PORTALES — There were “no updates” this week related to the July 27 house party that left one dead and two injured outside Portales, according to Roosevelt County Sheriff Malin Parker.

Court records reflected no charges as of Tuesday for Devin Guidry, who told police he fatally shot Derek Garcia in self-defense. Also, there were no charges filed against any of the other individuals on whom investigators had served search warrants in the hours following the incident.

Garcia, 24, died on scene outside his residence on the 500 block of East 18th Street. Two others were flown to Lubbock with injuries. Quintin Carmichael was shot in the leg and Nino Darienzo suffered stab wounds during the altercation outside the residence in the early hours of July 27.
