Tuesday is filing day for 36 positions in 12 elections

Tuesday should be a busy day at county clerk offices across the state, as many local boards are moving their previously spaced-out elections onto the November general election.

Signup is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Curry and Roosevelt county clerk offices for a total of 36 positions in 12 different elections — all non-partisan elections taking place Nov. 5.

Members of the various boards have received reminders of the signup day in recent meetings, as the November election cycle is part of House Bill 407 legislation that put school boards, college trustee boards and conservation districts on the same date and under management of county clerk offices.

“I wouldn’t say it’s any more difficult than it was before,” Curry County Clerk Annie Hogland said in publicizing the signup day. “For candidates who already hold the office, it’s no more difficult for them. Educating the public that may want to get involved, it’s been a little more difficult process.”

A new fold, Hogland said, is that candidates for boards representing multiple counties have to sign up in the county where they’re registered to vote. Three different races have signup available in both Curry and Roosevelt counties.

“That has been, as far as candidates in the position, the most difficult (aspect),” Hogland said. “We’re trying to get that information out so that at 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday, people don’t come in and (discover they) have to get to Roosevelt on time.”

The following positions are available for signup in Curry County:

• Clovis School Board: Districts 3, 4 and 5.

• Grady School Board: Positions 1, 2 and 3.

• Melrose School Board: Positions 1, 2 and 3.

• Texico School Board: Positions 1, 2 and 3.

• Clovis Community College Board of Trustees: Districts 1, 3 and 4. The District 3 election will be for the final two years of the late Russell Muffley’s term. Lora Harlan was appointed to the position earlier this year.

• Central Curry Soil and Water Conservation District: Supervisor Positions 1 and 2, Position 5 At-Large Supervisor.

The following positions are available for signup in Roosevelt County:

• Portales Municipal School Board: Districts 1, 2 and 5

• Dora School Board: Positions 1, 2, 3 and 5

• Elida School Board: Positions 1 and 2

• Melrose School Board: Positions 1, 2, and 3

• House School Board: Positions 3, 4 and 5

• Texico School Board: Positions 1, 2 and 3

• Roosevelt Soil and Water Conservation District: Districts 1 and 2, and District 5 At-Large.

• Central Curry Soil and Water Conservation District: Supervisor Positions 1 and 2, Position 5 At-Large Supervisor.

• Border Soil and Water Conservation District: Position 1 Supervisor, Position 2 Supervisor and Position 5 At-Large Supervisor.
