There will be five contested races in Curry County on Election Day, with three on the same school board.
Candidates signed up Tuesday for various public school board, trustee and conservation district elections. This is the first year all of the elections were consolidated to the November general election as part of House Bill 407.
A total of 41 candidates signed up for 34 races in Curry and Roosevelt counties. Election Day is Nov. 5.
Contested races are in:
• All three positions of the Texico School Board. Position 1 features Sandymarie I Pieratt, Derek Kyle Cain, Jason Levi Queener, Jerred Orson Cooper. Position 2 features Troy Lance Teague, Chad H. Davis. Position 3 features Craig Rohrbach and Charles Bryan Vannatta
• Position 3 on the Grady School Board, between Kodie D. Weese and Gerald W. Garland
• District 4 of the Clovis Community College Board of Trustees, where incumbent Raymond Mondragon is challenged by Carolyn Spence.
No elections with Roosevelt County serving as the parent county features a contested race.
Candidates running for boards covering multiple counties signed up at the county courthouse corresponding to their voter registration.
Sept. 3 is the only day for write-in candidate to file, and also serves as the final day for any candidate to withdraw.
