Blood test still pending in fatal crash

CLOVIS — Officials on Friday said they were still awaiting a lab result before identifying the driver of a city vehicle involved in the fatal collision July 29 with motorcyclists in Clovis.

The wreck occurred just after 8:30 a.m. that day at the intersection of Ross Street and Commerce and "involved a motorcycle versus a City of Clovis sanitation truck," according to a city news release at the time.

The motorcycle's driver, Bobby Trujillo, 51, of Clovis, was transported to University Medical Center in Lubbock. Passenger Patricia Trujillo, 61, died on scene, said the release.

Friends said Bobby Trujillo has been released from the hospital.

The driver of the city vehicle was treated at Clovis' Plains Regional Medical Center, but was still not identified as of Friday. Responding in August to an Inspection of Public Record request from The News, Clovis Police Capt. Roman Romero said the "name of the driver will be redacted, as we are still awaiting a blood result from the State of New Mexico."

According to what was released of the report, there is "further investigation to be conducted prior to any enforcement action taken in reference to this crash."
