Curry to take action on housing policy

CLOVIS — The Curry County Commission plans to take action on a new Restrictive Housing Policy for the Curry County Adult Detention Center during their regular meeting Tuesday morning.

The purpose of the new policy is to provide guidelines to manage and supervise detainees in the restrictive housing program. This will help reduce the number of detainees that need special management and increase the time they are allowed out of their cells.

Restrictive housing provides living conditions comparable to the general population and offers access to certain programs, privileges, education and work opportunities.

Restrictive housing is offered to detainees who require protective custody, are under disciplinary sanctions or have other special administrative housing needs, and when no reasonable alternative housing options are available.

The new policy will also give guidelines to review detainee's classifications, the provision of programs and services offered and their required documentation.

Other items on the agenda for the 9 a.m. meeting at the Curry County Administrative Complex include:

• A request for action to approve a contract with Nick Griego and Son's Construction for the construction of the Ranchvale Volunteer Fire Department Building.

• A request for action on a contract amendment with the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority to authorize the closure of Curry Road R between US 60/84 and Curry Road 12 from Sept. 9 to Oct. 4.

• A request for action on a contract with Eagleview to purchase pictometry imagery software for reappraisal purposes.

• A request for a notice of intent for the new Curry County personnel policy ordinance.

• A county commissioner's report to update the community on the Events Center 10 Year Anniversary events.

• An adult and juvenile detention center report for August by Jay Pavlik.

• A road department report for August 2019 by Walon Jones.

The commission will hold an executive session to discuss the purchase, acquisition or disposal of real property and water rights at the end of the meeting.
