Official hopes to update study

CLOVIS — Two years ago, the Clovis city commission approved a study for position classification review, employee benefits and compensation with the city’s 350-plus employees.

City Manager Justin Howalt wants to do an update to that study, and is asking for commission authorization to use S Resource Incorporated for the job at a cost of $23,000 at Thursday’s commission meeting.

During an action item last month recommending a 2.5 percent salary increase for city employees, Howalt indicated he would make a request to study the city’s benefits and compensation to stay competitive with other municipalities, particularly in the areas of public safety.

The funding for the update is included in the 2019-20 budget.

Other items on the agenda for Thursday’s 5:15 p.m. meeting at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library include:

• A 4:45 p.m. executive session to discuss pending or threatened litigation.

• Reappointment of Candace Morrison, Thom Moore and Marcus Smith on the planning and zoning commission. All three have terms expiring in October and were the only applicants for the upcoming terms.

• Presentation of quarterly awards for distinguished supervisor (Chris Elam, Clovis Fire Department) and line employee (Haley Levy, Clovis Police Department).
