Roosevelt to hold a special meeting Monday

PORTALES — The Roosevelt County Commission will convene in a special meeting Monday afternoon to fulfill an annual requirement of updating property tax rates imposed by the state's Dept. of Finance and Administration.

County Manager Amber Hamilton on Saturday referred questions as to changes in those rates from past years to the assessor's office.

Commissioners will discuss and consider the item in the 3:30 p.m. meeting at the chambers in the first floor of the county courthouse, but it's not the only item on the agenda. Also on schedule for the meeting:

• Request to formally terminate a joint powers agreement between the city of Portales and the county concerning the housing of municipal detainees at the Roosevelt County Detention Center. Hamilton said terminating the old agreement was necessary before negotiating and finalizing a new agreement anticipated before year's end. The existing agreement dates back to 2002, and costs of services offered both from the county to the city and the reverse have increased since then.

• Request to renew contracts with Frank Levacy Trucking and Red Rock Oil Company for hauling road materials and diesel fuel, respectively.

• Request to approve agreement with Autoagent Data Solutions for tax collection assistance for the treasurer's office.

• Request to approve agreement with aging and long-term services to buy new equipment for the Los Abuelitos Senior Center.
