Curry seeks block grant funding

ALBUQUERQUE — Curry County was one of 24 applicants seeking Community Development Block Grant funding at a meeting Monday, according to a release from the county.

Curry County Commission Chair Chet Spear, Road Superintendent Walon Jones and Administrative Services Coordinator Doria Rey attended the hearing to give a brief presentation on paving a mile portion of Curry Road 11 (West 21st Street) between Curry Road P and NM 311.

The project would also include draining, signage and striping at a cost of $793,900 — of which the county would provide a 10% match.

In total, the 24 applicants made $17 million in grant requests. The Community Development Bureau can appropriate up to $11 million. An allocation meeting is scheduled for Oct. 2.
