CANYON — Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Hannah Kelley-Lusk had a goal and an assist, and West Texas A&M knocked Eastern New Mexico from the ranks of the undefeated with a 2-1 victory Friday in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams.
In a rematch of last season’s LSC championship semifinals, the Buffs (2-3-0, 1-0-0) struck early, as Kelley-Lusk scored off a Jessica Diaz assist in the first half.
The goal was the first netted against ENMU junior Whitney Dockweiler this season, breaking her shutout streak at 389:23.
Overall, ENMU (3-1-1, 0-1-0) outshot the host Buffaloes 18-16, but WT had a 12-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Lusk assisted on the insurance goal in the 83rd minute, setting up Khaline Jacob’s first goal of the season.
The Greyhounds avoied the shutout in the 89th minute, with Hayden Zuniga getting the header off a corner kick past WT keeper Daniela Estrada.
Desiree Morgan had seven shots, two on goal, to lead the Greyhounds, while Dockweiler had a season-high 10 saves.
The Greyhounds continue LSC action Thursday night, hosting UT Tyler in a 7 p.m. battle at Greyhound Stadium.
