Interior design, embellishing garments ahead on show

Information on interior design and using Paintstiks to embellish ready-made garments will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Interior designer Kim Bailey knows that opposite personalities attract but when you’re trying to design a home together, conflict can often arise. She will share some tips on ways to create a beautiful home that both parties can enjoy and love. Bailey is President of Kim Bailey Interiors, LLC. and is from Carrollton, Texas.

Laura Murray is a quilter, author and designer, and her business is Laura Murray Designs. She’s going to demonstrate how to use Paintstiks to embellish a variety of ready-made garments. Murray is from Minneapolis.

Information on making napkins using a new pressure foot, getting the most from candles you buy, and information and recipes featuring strawberries will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Clare Rowley is an inventor and owner of Creative Feet in Prescott Valley, Arizona. She’s going to make napkins using the Satin edge pressure foot she invented for a blind and deaf sewer in 1986. Since this pressure foot guides the fabric itself, even children or adults with physical and visual challenges can enjoy sewing.

There is a lot to consider when buying candles, and Melanie Thayn is going to talk about what to look for and how to get the most from the candles you buy. This includes burning time, wicks, fragrance, and more. She’s an independent consultant with PartyLite in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

With Florida strawberries, you can enjoy a taste of summer all winter long. Sue Harrell represents the Florida Strawberry Growers Assn., and she’ll talk about the growing season, selection, storage and much more as she prepares a Strawberry/Banana smoothie for a quick and healthy breakfast. She lives in Plant City, Florida.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

1 quart Florida strawberries

2 cups powdered sugar

3 Tbsp. margarine

1 bag (14 oz.) dark chocolate

3 Tbsp. light corn syrup

1/4 tsp. salt

Wash and let strawberries dry at room temperature. (Leave stems on berries.) Combine margarine, corn syrup, salt and powdered sugar; pat around berries. Place berries on cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Refrigerate for 2 hours before dipping with chocolate. Melt chocolate in double boiler until thin. Dip strawberries in melted chocolate and place on clean wax paper until firm. Chocolate can be melted in microwave on defrost only if you do not have a double boiler. Put in microwavable dish for 6 to 8 minutes on defrost, stirring every 2 minutes until chocolate is completely melted. It may take longer, depending on microwave.
