Terry, Manyweather grab LSC weekly honors

RICHARDSON, Texas — The Lone Star Conference took notice of Eastern New Mexico’s upset win at Midwestern State, and awarded two of its players with weekly awards Monday.

Running back Paul Terry is the top offensive player and return man Justin Manyweather is the top special teams player, according to a release from the conference office.

Terry, a senior from Amarillo, matched a school record with 40 carries in the Greyhounds’ 27-24 win over teh Mustangs, with 225 yards and a touchdown.

Terry, who leads the LSC in rushing by nearly 300 yards, has reached the century mark in all five games this season.

Manyweather was the top special teamer for his 70-yard punt return touchdown that gave ENMU its first points Saturday night.

The awards are the third and fourth weekly awards in the first five weeks of LSC play for the Greyhounds, who in Week 2 saw Wyatt Strand take offensive honors in Week 2 and Quincy Arceneaux grab defensive honors.

Talreton State defensive end B.J. Jefferson was the defensive player of the week, with a forced fumble, 1.5 sacks and 13 total tackles.

The Texans visit the Greyhounds Saturday, with kickoff set for 6 p.m. at Greyhound Stadium.

Hounds get two points in poll — Two straight wins have put Eastern New Mexico back in the minds of Ameircan Football Coaches Association poll voters.

The Greyhounds, after two weeks out of poll consideration, garnered two points in the receiving votes category in the latest Division II poll Tuesday morning.

The Green and Silver (4-1, 2-1 Lone Star Conference) are coming off a 27-24 victory over Midwestern State. The Mustangs, who were 15th in the poll two weeks ago, tumbled out of the top 25 last week and this week are out of the receiving votes category as well.

Four other Lone Star Conference schools join ENMU in the poll this week — Tarleton State, which received one first-place vote, in fourth; Texas A&M-Commerce in 20th; Angelo State with 44 points and West Texas A&M with eight points in the receiving votes category.

Valdosta State remains at No.1 in the poll, with 30 of the 32 first-place votes.
