1974: Ten area cyclists had ridden their bikes from Clovis to Melrose and back to raise money for Curry County United Way.
The bikers each had sponsors who paid them $1 per mile for the trip.
Officials said they raised about $550 for the cause.
Riders were Dick Reeves, Ray Kimbrell, Ken Light, Tom Vincent, Dallas Anderson, Phil Anderson, Susan Totoritis, Larry Razlera, Jeff Gray and Les Baldock.
