CLOVIS — Two women charged in the Aug. 18 armed robbery of an elderly woman in a Clovis church parking lot have been arrested.
Cherry Anaya, 43, and Jamie Vega, 36, on Wednesday entered no plea to charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and six counts of unlawful use or theft of an ATM or debit card, according to court records.
Anaya and Vega were arrested Tuesday and remained in custody without bond awaiting a preliminary examination Oct. 21, according to court records. They were each charged Aug. 21 through an investigation by Clovis police.
An 88-year old woman told police she arrived early for Sunday school at a local church the morning of Aug. 18 and was approached in the parking lot by two women. One of them pointed a Glock 22 at her and took her purse and another one drove the pair off in a “goldish color car.”
The woman was not injured in the incident but was a little “shaken up,” Police Lt. Trevor Thron said at the time.
A review of surrounding surveillance footage and purchases with the woman’s card led police to identifying the suspects. Each of the pair are also charged with four counts of misdemeanor fraud, with alleged purchases that morning from a fast food restaurant, a dollar store and a smoke shop.
Specific public defenders representing the women were not listed Friday.
