Tigers (8-0) receive first-round bye
CLOVIS — A Saturday selection show was heavy on six-man football, but not so heavy on surprise as Elida received the top seed in the six-team bracket.
The Tigers (8-0) receive a first-round bye following a season that saw them win seven of their eight games by the 50-point rule and outscore the other five playoff teams by a 294-43 count.
Springer, the only one of those teams to stay within 50 of the Tigers, received the second seed and the other first-round bye.
The Tigers and Panthers will host the semifinal round games, scheduled for Nov. 1-2.
First-round games this weekend will feature fourth-seed Hondo Valley and fifth seed Vaughn, facing off for the right to play at Elida; and defending champ Animas as the third seed facing No. 6 Carrizozo for the right to play at Springer.
The home site for the Nov. 9 state title game is determined by playoff histories in semifinal and state title games. If the teams have played each other in a semifinal or state title game before, the previous host will be the visitor. If the teams have no such history, the higher seed is the host.
