RICHARDSON, Texas — Tyler Vargas became the fifth Eastern New Mexico University football player honored this season for a weekly player award from the Lone Star Conference.
Vargas, a senior from San Diego, was named the LSC’s special teams player of the week for his efforts in the Greyhounds’ 48-17 win Saturday at Western New Mexico. He had field goals of 47 and 28 yards, and converted all six extra-point attempts. He punted once, pinning the Mustangs inside their own 20.
Vargas is the second Greyhound to receive the special teams award, along with Justin Manyweather on Oct. 7.
The Greyhounds will close out the home portion of their season Saturday with the Wagon Wheel Game against West Texas A&M, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
