Liquor license up for public hearing, action

PORTALES — There will be a public hearing and action Tuesday on whether or not Eastern New Mexico University will receive a governmental liquor license for its ENMU Campus Union Building during the Portales City Council Meeting.

The hearing is the first item on the agenda for the 6:30 p.m. meeting at the Memorial Building.

The ENMU application was granted preliminary approval by the state licensing department in September and if fully approved the ENMU would no longer be a dry campus.

University officials have said that there are currently no plans to begin selling alcohol at sporting events if approved. The license is more intended to start allowing alcohol to be served at gatherings on campus like weddings.

Other action items for the meeting include:

• The board will receive a report from the city manager on the master plan for the City Hall modification and construction project.

• There will be action to award Constructors, Inc. the contract for Runways 1-19 and 8-26 in the reconstruction project pending Funding Agency approval.

• The board will review a recommendation by the Economic Development Finance Review Committee to request funds for the Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation.

The board will review the Economic Development Committees' finance review findings and decide whether or not to enter an agreement with the RCCDC that would use economic development tax revenue for economic support in Portales.

• The board will give notice that it intends to annex a tract of land in the Southwest corner of Section 30 of Roosevelt County that will be known as Partin Subdivision.
