A Clovis man was killed early Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash east of Fort Sumner.
David Lucio, 50, died at the scene, according to the New Mexico State Police.
According to an NMSP release:
• The department was called to mile post 334 of U.S. 60 about 3:45 a.m. for reports of a head-on collision.
• For unknown reasons, a 2005 Kia driven by Lucio crossed the center line into the oncoming traffic of an eastbound lane and struck a 2015 Mack Commercial Motor Vehicle.
• Lucio was ejected from his vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
• The commercial vehicle was driven by a 57-year-old man out of Carlsbad, who was not harmed in the crash. The NMSP did not identify him further, and had no plans to charge him.
• The investigation revealed seatbelts appear to have not been properly used.
