ENMU women 13th in regional meet

CANYON, Texas — The Eastern New Mexico women's cross country finished its 2019 season with a 13th-place finish out of 29 teams Saturday at the 2019 South Central Regional meet hosted by West Texas A&M.

The Hounds were paced by 2019 All-Lone Star Conference performer Evaline Cheptoo, who finished in 29th place with a time 23:01.28 in the 6K race. Eastern New Mexico totaled 403 points to finish seven points behind West Texas A&M and as the fourth-best LSC school at the event.

Aminata Kenyawani, the LSC’s newcomer of the year, finished in 45th place with a time of 23:27.96 while junior Kayla Sisneros finished in 97th place with a time of 24:36.85. Freshman Viridiana Ruiz had a 105th place finish following a time of 24:42.29.

Adams State had five runners finish in the top 10 to capture the 2019 team title behind the efforts of individual champion Stephanie Cotter, who finished in 20:53.50. The top eight finishing teams were from Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference schools.

The South Central Region is comprised of only the LSC and the RMAC. The RMAC had the only four South Central schools invited to the Nov. 23 national meet in Sacramento — Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado Western.

The only unattached runners from South Central schools were Alden Gruidel of Metro State and Billie Hatch of Dixie State.
