ENMU teams add 18 prospects

PORTALES — The women’s soccer season has concluded, the volleyball season is nearly there and the baseball season still hasn’t started at Eastern New Mexico University.

Still, it’s not too early to start thinking of next year, and 18 athletes have been signed to compete in the 2020-21 season for the Greyhound teams — two in baseball, six in volleyball and 10 in women’s soccer.

The signings were announced by the college throughout the week.

The baseball team signed pitcher Noah Rodriguez from Basha High School in Gilbert, Arizona, and Alamogordo infielder Rooster Williams for the 2021 season.

The volleyball squad added a pair of New Mexico athletes in Tucumcari hitter Jasmine Jones and Lovington outside hitter/libero Rylee Mapes. The team went with three players from San Antonio — outside hitters Mikaela Garvin and Kali Nelson and middle blocker Deziree Flower — and outside hitter Amber Roberts of Peoria, Arizona’s Sunrise Mountain H.S.

The soccer team added one more Zuniga sister, as defender Demi Zuniga will join older sisters Keyara and Hayden Zuniga on next year’s team. Other signees were from El Paso (forwards Vanessa Gonzalez, Valeria Hawkins and Amber Ochoa), Albuquerque (defender Sydney Saxon and goalkeeper Samantha Jeffries), the Dallas-Fort Worth area (keeper Reagan Carter, defender Morgan Bearden, forward Brianna Eye) and Fallbrook, California (defender Megan Janikowski).
