GRADY — Alicia Rush’s return to the sideline was certainly one to remember on Saturday night.
Rush, who coached girls basketball at the school from 1998-2012 and is also Grady’s athletic director, won her first game back as coach as junior Kamryn Harris hit a bank shot from the lane at the buzzer in overtime to give the Lady Bronchos a 47-46 win over Des Moines.
Grady’s boys also won their opener over the Demons 77-40.
The Lady Bronchos had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but missed two free throws and the game went into OT tied 40-40. Trailing by one in the extra session, Grady had a timeout with possession and five seconds left.
Junior Bailey Montoya found Harris, who dribbled in from the elbow and knocked down the game-winner.
Junior Teryn Foote score 23 points for Grady, while sophomore Divinity Archuleta added 13. Des Moines got 19 points from senior Grace Hall and 12 from senior Allison Guerrero.
The boys game was far less dramatic. Grady trailed only once, at 7-6, and was in control most of the way behind 26 points from sophomore Dustin Bryant, 16 from junior Chad Beccera and 13 from senior Chisum Rush.
Grady’s teams return to action next Tuesday at Elida.
