One arrested in crash

CLOVIS - A Clovis woman was arrested Friday morning following a high-speed crash in Clovis.

Kimberly Thompson, 43, is in the Curry County Adult Detention Center on nine charges in connection to the incident, including receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, driving while under the influence and battery upon a peace officer.

According to the New Mexico State Police, a chase began after an NMSP officer attempted a traffic stop on Thompson at 9:42 a.m. The chase ended near the intersection of Thornton Street and Yucca Avenue when Thompson crashed into a bystander vehicle.

Thompson was arrested without incident at the scene, but escaped a hospital bed she was handcuffed to while receiving treatment at Plains Regional Medical Center. The NMSP officer at PRMC was able to detain Thompson and transport her to the detention center.

The bystander was taken to PRMC, but the identity and medical condition were not disclosed.

Rosalie Sallis of Clovis said her 2007 Monte Carlo was one of the vehicles involved in the accident, having been stolen sometime after midnight Thursday.

She said a vehicle key was taken from her a few days earlier by Thompson, who had offered to help her with housework in preparation for the holiday.
