PHS football team to be honored

PORTALES — The Portales High School football team, a week removed from its Class 4A state championship, will be honored by the Portales Municipal Schools board Monday evening.

The team went 12-1 on the season, losing only to Class 5A Goddard and blanked top seed Bloomfield 23-0 on the road. The Rams have been to at least the semifinal round for the last five seasons, and won the 2016 4A title during that run.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the PMS administration building at 501 S. Abilene Ave.

The team will be honored earlier that day in a 2 p.m. community ceremony at the Ram Athletic Center on the PHS campus.

The meeting will conclude with an executive session covering personnel matters, specifically an evaluation of Superintendent Johnnie Cain.

Other items on the agenda include:

• Reports from the PHS council and chamber choir.

• Recognition of Jodi Shifflett as a recipient of the GRADS award.

• Various budget adjustments increasing capital improvement funding by $12,364 with the money coming from six different maintenance accounts.

• A revision to board policy for first reading covering diabetes management.
