RESERVE — Melrose’s basketball teams completed a sweep of the championships on Saturday in Reserve’s Mountaineer Invitational.
All of the games for both were relatively lopsided, except for the boys final in which the Buffaloes turned back Maxwell 49-41. Meantime, the Lady Buffs coasted to a 58-29 title-game victory over Mountainair.
Tristan Sena led the Melrose boys in the finale with 17 points, while Dylan Valentine added 12. The Buffs (14-1) were up 12-10 after one period, and increased the margin slightly at each of the remaining quarter stops.
Bothers Kolton and Kaden Riggs netted 18 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bears (11-4), who have now suffered two of their losses this season to Melrose.
The Lady Buffs (12-2) cruised to a 26-8 halftime lead and had no trouble beating Mountainair for the second time this season. Shannon May led Melrose with 15 points, followed by 13 from Nataley Mondragon and 12 from Johanna Roybal.
Zoey Bargas topped the Lady Mountaineers (9-7) with 10 points.

Sebastian Jimenez led Tatum (10-6) with 16 points.
Texico girls 41, Tatum 36 — After seeing an eight-point lead at the quarter disappear by the end of the third stanza, the Lady Wolverines (6-7) posted a 13-7 scoring edge over the final eight minutes to claim the victory. It was the first of four games on tap this week for Texico.
Only three players scored for Texico, led by senior Ashley Hill with 25 points and junior Rachel Phipps with 12. Ashlyn Griffin topped the Lady Coyotes (8-7) with 11 points.
