Perfectionism, exposed zipper application ahead on show

Information on dealing with perfectionism, exposed zipper application and common cat health problems will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Jane Bluestein will discuss perfectionism and tell how it can create tremendous stress and anxiety in life. She will reference her newest book “Perfection Deception,” as she talks about how parents can avoid raising a perfectionist child. Her business is Instructional Support Services, Inc. and she lives in Albuquerque.

Patty Dunn, owner of All Dunn Designs, will demonstrate how to do the exposed zipper application that is so trendy right now. She’ll also talk about which zippers work best for various garments. She’s from Corpus Christi, Texas.

Recent studies show that cat obesity has risen over 90 percent since 2007, and people are beginning to look at their pet food as the source of health problems. Will Post, founder of Hound & Gatos Pet Food Corp. in Atlanta, will talk about five common cat health problems.

Information on economizing your kitchen and making sculpted dolls will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Michelle Dudash is a registered dietitian and spokesperson for California Raisin Marketing Board and she’s going to explain how to economize your kitchen by choosing foods that add flavor and nutrition without breaking the bank. She’s from Sacramento, California.

Author and doll maker Terese Cato has been making sculpted dolls for years. She will show how to sculpt the doll’s face before it is attached to the body. Her book is titled “Make Cloth Dolls. A Foolproof Way to Sew Fabric Friends.” She lives in North Las Vegas, Nevada.

Two-Grain Raisin Muffins

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

2 cups quick-cooking oats

3 tablespoons baking powder

1 1/4 cups chopped nuts

2 cups California raisins

2 cups cooked canned sweet potatoes, drained

1 1/2 cups lowfat milk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 whole eggs

4 tsp. vanilla extract

Combine the flours, oats, baking powder and nuts in mixer bowl. Mix well. Process raisins and sweet potatoes with milk in blender or food processor until smooth. Add to mixer bowl along with re-maining milk, vegetable oil, eggs and vanilla. Mix until dry ingredients are just moistened. DO NOT OVER MIX. Portion batter into paper-lined muffin tins. Bake 15 to 20 minutes at 375° F. Yield: 24 muffins.
