Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
That cold snap that started Tuesday should continue into tonight, and eastern New Mexico residents can expect cold nights for the foreseeable future.
Tuesday saw several inches of snowfall across the area and temperatures were expected to dip to a low of 11 degrees this morning.
Multiple public entities closed early Tuesday and some delayed openings this morning because of the weather.
Minor accidents were reported around the region and whiteout conditions were reported between Farwell and Muleshoe on Tuesday afternoon.
Due to the weather:
• Portales shut down its Portales Area Transit system late Tuesday morning and announced it would be on a two-hour delay today.
• Eastern New Mexico University closed its campus late Tuesday morning and announced a two-hour delay for Wednesday.
• District and magistrate courts in Clovis and Portales closed at noon.
• Muleshoe released students early Tuesday afternoon.
• Melrose released students Tuesday afternoon and announced a two-hour delay for Wednesday.
• Clovis Community College closed early and rescheduled its board of trustees meeting from today to Feb. 12.
• Clovis school officials canceled all after-school and evening activities planned for Tuesday, and later canceled Wednesday classes.
• Grady announced a two-hour delay and canceled parent-teacher conferences scheduled for the day.
• Roosevelt County closed offices early and announced it would be operating on a two-hour delay today, opening offices at 10 a.m.
• Curry County offices closed early Tuesday and plan to open at 9 a.m. today.
• The city of Clovis canceled its Civil Aviation Board meeting that was set for Tuesday night. It has been moved to 4:30 p.m. Monday.
The National Weather Service predicts snow is less likely for today, with a 20% chance before noon. Today should be partly sunny with a high around 32, but a 10-15 mph north wind could make it feel colder.
Temperatures are expected to rebound starting Thursday with clear skies and highs in the 50s through Friday. Overnight lows will be in the 20s.
Saturday and Sunday should be sunny, with highs in the 50s and 60s and low 30s overnight, according to NWS.
