Thursday prep roundup: Creighton helps Elida top Dora

ELIDA — Elida’s boys continued their season-long domination of Dora on Thursday night with a 69-52 in a District 4-1A makeup of Tuesday’s weather-related postponement.

Sophomore Rylan Creighton scored 24 points for the Tigers (18-3, 4-1 district) while junior Teagan Burton added 10. For the Coyotes (9-10, 3-2), who host Elida in the district and regular-season finale on Feb. 21, sophomore Cache Skelley collected 18 points and senior Haiden Padgett chipped in 10.

Meantime, Dora (7-11, 3-2) claimed a 53-32 victory over the Lady Tigers in the girls matchup, getting 32 points from senior Randi Crandall and 11 from senior Makayla Burnett. Elida (2-18, 1-4), which trailed just 21-20 at halftime, was led by junior Tiffany Ortega with 13 points and sophomore Lilly Anthony with 11.

In other Thursday action:

Fort Sumner girls 61, Grady 26 — The Vixens outscored host Grady 24-2 in the third quarter to break open what had been a relatively close game. While no one reached double figures for Fort Sumner (17-6, 4-2), 11 of the 12 Vixens scored, led by nine points each from senior Rae Anne Williamson and freshman Olivia Lucero.

For the Lady Bronchos (6-12, 0-5), junior Teryn Foote collected 11 points and junior Isabelle Martinez added eight.

In the boys matchup, Fort Sumner avenged an earlier loss to the Bronchos with a 74-45 victory.

In Wednesday makeups of Tuesday postponements:

Farwell boys 53, Sudan 34 — The Steers used a 14-3 run in the second quarter to take control of their Texas Region I District 3-2A matchup at Sudan.

Jonathan Mora led the Steers (19-9, 3-2) with 14 points, while Austin Hester added 11 and Jose Rodriguez 10. Senior Christian Montes paced the Hornets (1-12, 0-5) with nine points.

Sudan girls 41, Farwell 38 — Freshman guard Stevi Lockett funneled in 20 points and the Hornettes (18-5, 4-2) held on late against the Lady Blue.

Senior Ainsley Actkinson led Farwell (22-9, 5-2) with 11 points, while senior Paulina Rodriguez added nine points.

In games played on Feb. 1:

Clovis Christian boys 44, Hondo 38 — Junior Lola DeGroot scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in the second quarter to help the Lady Eagles (13-8) take control at the CCS gym.

Senior Sofi Garbarino and freshman Claire Fisher each scored nine points for Clovis Christian. Fisher hit a pair of 3-pointers in the contest while Garbarino helped keep the Lady Eagles comfortable by going 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final stanza.

Junior Kate Cooper matched DeGroot for game honors with 18 points for Hondo (11-9).

CCS boys 80, Hondo 63 — Freshman Carter Teune poured in 24 points to lead the Eagles to a season-high point total.

Three others reached double digits for CCS (9-12) — junior Tyler Linghau with 18 points and junior Dawson Teune and freshman Noah Gershon with 12 apiece. Lingnau delivered three 3-point baskets and Carter Teune had a pair.

Junior Fabrian Producio collected three 3s and 16 points for Hondo (13-7), while sophomore Miguel Guillen added 15 points and junior Tommy Lucero 12.
