1970: Clovis’ Firestone tire dealer was targeting area women with newspaper advertising.
The dealership at 821 Main told area wives: “We will pay you 20 cents cash for each pound your husband weighs when he buys a pair of Firestone deep tread or all traction field and road tractor tires during our Farmer Days.”
An illustration featured a 200-pound man on scales with a caption that read “This husband is worth $40. Do you have one worth more?”
Firestone was also giving away free copies of the Farmers Almanac and free coffee and donuts.
