Greyhounds cruise in LSC tourney opener

Senior Natalie DeLonge led three in double figures, and Eastern New Mexico's women advanced Tuesday night in the Lone Star Conference tournament with a 70-52 victory over Oklahoma Christian at Greyhound Arena.

Sophomore Zamorye Cox added 15 and Alivia Lewis 10 for the fifth-seeded Greyhounds (21-8), who move on to a 7:30 p.m. Thursday quarterfinal against fourth-seeded Tarleton State. The top four seeds received a first-round bye to the tournament, which continues at Comerica Arena in Frisco, Texas. The remaining eight teams played Tuesday night, with all four higher seeds winning their home contests.

The 12th-seeded Eagles (8-19) jumped out to an early 5-0 lead, but couldn't stretch the lead with 0-of-7 shooting as Cox and DeLonge led a miniature comeback. The Greyhounds took the lead for good on a Jasmine Williams layup with 6:28 left in the second quarter, the start of a 12-2 run to close the half.

The Greyhounds led by double figures the entire second half, and by as many as 27 in the final five minutes.

Maddison Collier had 12 to lead the Eagles.
