Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
The Eastern New Mexico University Board of Regents will head west Friday, with its regular meeting set for its Ruidoso branch campus.
The meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. at ENMU-Ruidoso Room 102.
Items on the agenda include:
• Discussion and potential action on building, remodeling or purchasing a new presidential residence at the Portales campus.
Regent Terry Othick said the discussion was somewhat “hitting the reset button” on the discussions. Money previously awarded for the residence from the state Legislature has been reappropriated with the option to build a new residence, remodel the existing Cherry Street residence or purchase a new property.
Previously, the money was specifically earmarked for a new build.
“One of the reasons for rethinking it is we haven’t had anybody step up with a good purpose for the existing house,” Othick said. “We don’t want to leave it there abandoned. We’re giving some rethinking to whether we’d be better off remodeling it.”
• Consideration of a travel policy for the university chancellor and a spouse.
• Consideration of student fees board recommendations.
• The addition of associate degrees at the Roswell campus for science in elementary education and science in secondary education.
• Discussions on the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship, budget concerns for the 2020-21 fiscal year and a solar array location. The items are information only.
• An executive session to discuss two personnel matters and a matter of threatened or pending litigation.
