ENMU update: LSC, GNAC extend football agreement

The Lone Star Conference and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference have extended a deal for a non-conference scheduling alliance into the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The conferences will formally begin that agreement this season. The now four-year agreement will feature seven games for Eastern New Mexico, four home and three road, with Central Washington Wildcats and Azusa Pacific Cougars.

This season will see the Greyhounds host Azusa Pacific Nov. 7, and the 2021 season includes a Sept. 4 home game against Central Washington and a Nov. 6 game at Azusa Pacific.

The 2022 and 2023 seasons will give ENMU the same GNAC opponents. In 2022, ENMU will host the Wildcats Sept. 3 and visit the Cougars Sept. 17. In the 2023 season, the Greyhounds will visit Central Washington Sept. 2 and host Azusa Pacific Sept. 16.

The agreement does not impact either conference's normal schedule. The eight-team LSC will continue to play a round-robin schedule with seven league games for each team, while the four-team GNAC will play a double round-robin format with six games for each team.

Spring football events canceled — Greyhound football coach Kelley Lee announced the cancelation of its annual Good Friday kid’s camp that was scheduled for April 10 due to COVID-19 concerns.

Lee said he hoped to be able to put on a replacement camp sometime in the summer.

The Greyhound program had already canceled all spring football practices, in accordance with a university mandate to cancel all organized practices.
