Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Cannon Air Force Base has about 100 airmen and dependents who are self-monitoring while isolated in quarters, though it has had no confirmed cases of the coronavirus so far.
Representatives from the base said it is important to differentiate between several terms related to the epidemic.
Self-observation is when individuals are aware of the symptoms and monitor themselves.
Self-monitoring is synonymous with quarantine and involves 14 days of staying in quarters, but is a self-enforced status and less legally binding.
The base’s public health team will be running a 24-hour hotline at 575-784-4926 and screening individuals who may require testing.
The base has been periodically posting information on its main Facebook page for staff and family to help address the crisis.
This includes:
• Everyone has been advised to practice social distancing and maintain six feet of space from others.
• Identifications will be checked at the Cannon Commissary until further notice.
Early bird hours are canceled and the first two hours will be reserved for active-duty military and dependents.
• The 27th Special Operations Medical Group will have limited walk-in services starting Monday.
The clinic is re-evaluating which regular appointments can be done virtually.
• The following buildings remain closed: fitness center, education center, base theater, PT test chamber, WAPS testing, outdoor recreation, commando readiness center, youth center, landing zone, community center, public affairs, aero skills center, FTAC.
• All dining locations remain take-out only.
