Swearing-in adjusted for virus

CLOVIS — New Clovis Mayor Mike Morris, four newly elected Clovis city commissioners and the municipal judge will be sworn in Monday afternoon, but the ceremony will take a little longer than normal due to mass gathering restrictions with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony will begin at 2:55 p.m. at Clovis City Hall with brief comments from City Manager Justin Howalt, followed by the members being sworn in individually at 15-minute intervals. Gatherings of more than five are banned under a current state public health order.

The ceremony will be broadcast on the city’s Facebook page — facebook.com/cityofclovis

Swear-in times will be 3 p.m. for Morris, 3:15 p.m. for District 1 Commissioner Leo Lovett, 3:30 p.m. for District 2 Commissioner Lauren Rowley, 3:45 p.m. for District 3 Commissioner Helen Casaus, 4 p.m. for District 4 Commissioner Chris Bryant and 4:15 p.m. for Municipal Judge Vicki Kelley.

Morris and the new commissioners will assume their roles immediately upon swearing in. Their first meeting is Thursday.
