Portales to hold brief meeting

PORTALES — The Portales City Council will hold what is expected to be a brief special meeting 10 a.m. Wednesday with one item on the agenda.

The meeting will be held in a virtual format due to mass gathering bans associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, but will be streamed at the city’s Facebook page at:

The lone action item is a resolution declaring the city to be an emergency area as a result of the pandemic, making it eligible to apply for and receive state and federal aid that becomes available.

The resolution also grants City Manager Sammy Standefer latitude to establish emergency policies in response.

A similar resolution was passed Thursday by the Clovis city commission that granted that latitude to City Manager Justin Howalt.
