Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
CLOVIS - Residents driving around Hillcrest Park might have noticed something other than the snowfall of late - the reopening of Seventh Street.
The most recent phase of renovation closed about 5 p.m. Monday, City Manager Justin Howalt said, when traffic cones and detour signs were pulled off of the area surrounding the intersection of Seventh and Norris streets.
A one-block portion of Seventh between Weatherford and Norris became an issue in January when cracking developed on dozens of concrete tiles.
The tiles were redone without additional expense to the city, but time was added to the closure. Howalt pitched to the public works committee a temporary road opening in February, followed by a closure when weather allowed for concrete work.
The committee understood Howalt's desire to give citizens a few weeks of road use, but believed the confusion of a back-and-forth road status would outweigh any benefit a temporary opening would give.
The Seventh Street work began in February 2019 between Norris and Maple. The next phase, for which the city is still seeking funding, will update the street from Maple to Main.
