Community night to be held on Facebook live

PORTALES — A community night to promote 2020 Census efforts in Roosevelt County will be held Saturday on Facebook Live, according to a release from the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce.

The event is scheduled to go from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and will feature nearly a dozen local musicians playing from their own living rooms. It will show on the Chamber’s Facebook page, and residents are advised to like the page in advance so they can be notified when the event begins.

The lineup tentatively includes Will Banister, Eastern New Mexico University music instructor Travis Irwin, Andy Mason and Lute of Orpheus Productions operator Allen Valdez.

The event will feature instructions on completing the Census and more than $3,000 in door prize giveaways.

“It’s important that everyone in our county completes the 2020 Census,” said Roosevelt County Complete Count Co-chair Johnny Montiel, who noted the original plan was for an outdoor event. “For every person that doesn’t get counted we stand to lose as much as $3,000 in state and federal funding as well as grants.”
