Clovis schools give status update

CLOVIS — Public school officials in Clovis are still working on many initiatives, including still-to-be-determined plans for a Clovis High School graduation. But they updated residents Friday on how the school year is winding down.

District facilities will remain closed to the public, with staff available by telephone.

Other items announced by the district include:

• Families with students at either Clovis High, Gattis Middle School, the iAcademy or Barry, Mesa and Zia elementary schools who have experienced household income losses due to COVID-19 can complete a new free/reduced meal application. Qualifying families can receive a supplement of up to $300 per student. The application is available at the district website or school grab-and-go meal sites and can be emailed to

to be placed on the list. Summer school will be held virtually.

• The district’s grab-and-go meal program will end Wednesday, and La Casa’s summer food service program will take over on Thursday. All sites will remain the same except for Mesa Elementary due to summer construction; service will move to Windy Plains at 4000 Lew Wallace Dr.

A first visit to La Casa’s program will require parent or guardian presence to receive a program card.

• New student enrollment begins Monday and will be conducted online. Middle and high school registration is available through Tuesday.

• Orders of the Plainsman yearbook must be made by June 15.

• A truck raffle will be postponed to later in May to allow for all tickets to be returned and to coordinate a venue for the drawing.

• The district has deployed 45 wifi hotspots via buses and district vehicles, with the service only accessible by district-issued student Chromebooks 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Free home internet services from Plateau will end with the conclusion of the school year. The district is working on providing access to seniors through the June 19 graduation requirement deadline and summer school participants.

• Seniors or students leaving the district will be required to turn in school-issued internet devices, while returning students can return their devices at the beginning of the next school year.
