“Resurgence” by C.J. Cherryh continues the sci-fi Foreigner saga as diplomat Ben Cameron works to unite the central and southern clans. But Ilisidi has her own notions

to solve the hostilities. Playing one problem against another, she commandeers the Red Train, taking what passengers she chooses, and heads for the snowy roof of the world, where a hard-scrabble town and its minor lord are the first pieces she intends to use.

“The Look-Alike” by Erica Spindler deals out a thrilling psychological drama of a woman who believes she was actually the target of a brutal murder years ago. After growing up in the dark shadow of her mother’s paranoid delusions, Sienna Scott returns home to confront her past and the unsolved murder. As the walls close in, the line between truth and lie, reality and delusion disintegrate. Has Sienna’s worst nightmare come true? And has the killer already begun to remedy his past mistake?

“A Long Petal of the Sea” by Isabel Allende spans decades and crosses continents when a pregnant young widow and an army doctor must unite in a marriage neither desires. In order to flee the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, they live in exile on a new continent, yet long to return home. Facing trial after trial, the unlikely partners eventually discover that home might have been closer than they thought all along.

“Foursome: Alfred Stieglitz, Georgia O’Keeffe, Paul Strand, Rebecca Salsbury” by Carolyn Burke lends a captivating, spirited account of the intense relationships between two couples, all famous artists, whose strong personalities, passionate feelings, and aesthetic ideals drew them together, pulled them apart, and profoundly influenced the very shape of twentieth-century art. Spurred by each other’s creativity, the bond the four shared would last more than a decade and reverberate throughout their extraordinary lives.

“Loving Out Loud” by Robyn Freedman Spizman is a little book with a big message: making a positive impact on someone’s day, every day, isn’t nearly as hard as you think. The smallest compliment or remark of appreciation can transform an awkward moment into one of connection and joy, letting someone else know we are paying attention, we care, and we appreciate them. With LOL Snapshots and LOL daily suggestions in numerous categories, Loving Out Loud is poised to inspire a movement toward a kinder, more engaged community.

“The Shadow of Vesuvius: A Life of Pliny” by Daisy Dunn interweaves extracts from [Pliny the] Elder’s Natural History with [Pliny the] Younger’s letters, speeches, and poetry into an insightful portrait of two of antiquity’s greatest minds, their world, and their influence. This true-life account also incorporates a moving narrative about the profound influence of a father figure on his adopted son.
