A Roosevelt County woman has died from complications related to COVID-19, state health officials announced Monday afternoon.
The woman was in her 60s. She had been hospitalized with underlying health conditions, according to a news release from the governor's office.
Officials said 440 New Mexico residents have now died from complications related to the virus. The Roosevelt County woman is just the second COVID victim in eastern New Mexico. A Quay County man died in April after contracting the virus on a cruise ship.
In other COVID-19 developments, Plains Regional Medical Center confirmed an employee has recently tested positive. Administrator Drew Dostal did not provide details on the employee, other than to note a preliminary investigation indicates the employee was not infected by a patient.
We will have more information as it becomes available.
