Dance clinic scheduled
Middle school dance clinics and tryouts for teams at Clovis Municipal Schools will be held in late June and early July, according to a release from the district.
The Clovis High School Lego gym will host both a clinic and tryout. Entrance to the gym will be from the alley bordering the CHS campus.
Due to limited capacity, clinic and tryout times will be scheduled by phone calls. Each dancer must have a physical, but physicals from the 2019-20 school year will be accepted.
Gattis and Yucca middle schools will have a June 30-July 1 clinic and July 2 tryouts. Scheduling will be done through Shannon Yelton at 703-268-0134.
Marshall Middle School will have a July 7-8 clinic and July 9 tryouts. Scheduling will be done through Shannon Royal at 575-693-9320.
Address verification sought
The New Mexico Human Services Department is preparing to mail P-EBT cards to households for:
• Students attending district schools that provide free breakfast and lunch.
• Students at Clovis High School, Gattis Middle School, iAcademy, and Barry, Mesa, and Zia
Elementary schools that receive free and reduced school meals and are not on SNAP EBT or Medicaid.
Parent/guardian addresses must be verified so the state-issued supplemental food benefit (P-EBT) card will be mailed to the correct address.
Families can verify their address through the district’s Skyward Family Access. If an address needs to be changed, applicants are asked to submit the correct address online and attach a proof of address document (i.e. utility bill or rental/lease agreement) to expedite the process.
Brown principal appointed
A Portales principal has been appointed to a statewide advisory council by the New Mexico Early Childhood Education and Care Department, according to a release from the state.
Melanie Skinner, principal and pre-K coordinator for Brown Early Childhood Center, is one of 40 council members selected from a pool of more than 300 applicants.
The council, created to fulfill 2019 legislation that created the ECECD, will help shape the department’s measurements for success and long-term goals.
The council will meet four times this year before providing recommendations to the governor and the Legislature.
